An Early Start To Hurricane Season?
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. However there is an area in the western Atlantic that some of the computer models are picking up on that could develop into either a tropical low or a sub-tropical low pressure system off the coast of the southeast by mid-week next week. There is nothing definitive but is something worth watching. Whatever does form will bring an increased chance for rain and thunderstorms over the southeast next week. The bottom line is that by mid to late week, that low near the Bahamas or Southeast coast may form enough convection near its circulation to be called a subtropical depression or storm. The last time a tropical storm did form early, it was in May of 2012. “Most recently, in May 2012, a pair of tropical storms, Alberto and Beyrl, both formed off the coast of the Carolinas, Georgia and north Florida. Beryl washed out the Memorial Day weekend, and was the strongest tropical cyclone to make a U.S. landfall before June 1 on record, with 70 mph maximum sustained winds.”
